In the world of Barbaresco wines, while names like Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, and La Spinetta often take the spotlight, when it comes to its founding, one cannot overlook Produttori del Barbaresco.
Founded in 1894 by Domizio Cavazza, then the head of the Royal Oenological School in Alba and owner of the Barbaresco castle, this winemaking cooperative is considered the pioneer of the Barbaresco region. Despite the cooperative being forced to close in the 1920s, it was resurrected in 1958 and stands strong to this day.
The hallmark wine of this estate is the fundamental Barbaresco DOCG, which represents about forty percent of the total production. It excellently showcases the characteristics of Barbaresco, with consistent quality that shines even in challenging vintages.
The 2017 vintage faced some unfavorable weather conditions, leading to lower grape yields. Nevertheless, this wine is brimming with flavors of cherries, raspberries, dried strawberries, accompanied by elegant floral notes of roses and peonies. It also features undertones of underbrush, earth, camphor, as well as hints of anise and star anise, crafting a classic and refined texture that makes it a lovely and delightful creation.
