Angus has never exactly kept his feelings about Inchmurrin quiet, it’s a make that seems to revel in its own slightly unhinged fruitiness, and we’re very much here for it. It also happens to play nicely with just about any cask you throw at it, which makes it dangerously tempting when it comes to a bit of small-batch tinkering. So, naturally, we’ve done exactly that. This is a multi-vintage marriage of a v.12 2nd fill bourbon barrel and a v.13 1st fill sherry hogshead, brought together into a 12 year old and bottled at 53%. The result is gloriously expressive, exotic fruits colliding with darker tones, heather honey, waxes and all sorts of slightly odd but deeply satisfying edges like metal polish, hessian and olive oil. It opens on dried tropical and dark fruits, fruit salad juices and mineral oils, before rolling into waxy textures, putty, camphor, buttered toast, sweet cereals and spiced ales. It goes long, lush and increasingly oily, with that signature Inchmurrin charisma dialled all the way up. Properly intriguing stuff.
